I live around 350km away from Schalke and other teams would have been much more obvious for me.
When I was around 4 years old, my cousin Karin had a jacket with a Schalke patch (she'd got it as a present from someone). From then on, my aunt Christa (a little bit older than me, but younger than Karin) and me decided that we are Schalke fans from now on, as we looked up to Karin.
We've been Schalkers ever since. Klaus Fischer has helped a bit, too 😃
Funny thing is: Karin has never been interested in football at all 🥳
