The flag has disappeared .... 👍💙⚒⚒⚒⚒🤍

A Schalke Advent Story.

It so happened that our "Royal Blue" S04 was putting in a dismal Champions League performance when, quite unexpectedly, a winning goal for Schalke was scored in the 91st minute.
Caught up in the general euphoria, one particularly devoted Schalke fan took a liking to our arena flag. First, he tugged at it, then waved it around, and finally, he rolled it up and stashed it under his jacket. He left the stadium, swaying unsteadily. After a victory lap around the grounds, he somehow managed to reach the S-Bahn (suburban train) and was eventually taken home.
The next morning, the fan—now somewhat more sober—woke up with only hazy memories of the previous evening. He was puzzled to find several empty miniature liquor bottles in his pockets; their origin was a mystery, but their effect was all too clear.
Even more baffling, however, was the discovery of a massive Schalke flag in his apartment. Where on earth did that come from?

A phone call to the friends he’d been with the night before revealed that they had, in fact, "liberated" a flag... Oh crap—what now?
Since he wasn't on Facebook, a friend did some digging online and quickly found what they were looking for.
The entire Schalke online community was already searching for the flag that had ended up in his living room.

Panic...

First, he called the police in Gelsenkirchen to turn himself in.

After that, he reached out via a mutual friend to contact us through our Facebook page.

A few minutes later, I was on the phone with the "Royal Blue" fan himself.

Apologies, apologies, and more apologies.
It was immediately agreed that the flag would be returned—along with a donation as a gesture of amends.

So far, so good. We chatted about the fan club, the jerseys, the logo—all the familiar, shared passions. When asked if he’d be up for joining the group, he was left speechless at first...

After everything that happened? After all the trouble? After the flag theft?

Seriously? Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. What matters is owning up to them afterward and recognizing one’s own foolishness.

And so it came to be that we now have a new (yet old) flag—and a new fan club member.

That’s my Schalke for you. 😏🇬🇧⚒
